I'm confused by what's on the junior cert Irish.. My Irish teacher is very strict and I don't feel confident Enough to ask her any questions!!
What exactly is on the junior cert higher level paper? I know there is listening and reading comprehensions which are fine..
The personal writing is confusing? Do you have to write a story and a postcard and a letter or do they tell you what they want you to write?
And do you have to talk about a story AND a poem you have studied??
What is the exam and mocks like? I'm so nervous!!
Don't worry about the mocks, I'm in leaving cert and tbh they're only a practice run for the real exams and they give you a chance to improve, look in your exam papers and take a record of what came up each year and compare it to when it last came up etc and that might help you :)
There are 2 HL Irish papers
Cluasthuiscint (Listening Comprehension) - Practise past exam papers to improve your listening (40 marks)
Léamhthuiscint (Reading Comprehension) - Again, practising exam papers help here. A lot of answers can be taken straight from the text, although if you can try to use your own words (40 marks)
Trialacha Teanga Comhthéacsúla (Grammar) - For part (a) Learn the past, tense and future tense. You need to translate a text from one tense to another. Also, make sure to rewrite the entire text, NOT just the verbs. Part (b) requires you to learn other grammar. (20 marks)
Ceapadóireacht - You must write an Aiste/Alt (Essay/Article), Scéal/Eachtra (Story/Event) or Díospóireacht/Óráid (Debate/Speech). You are given plenty of choices and you should write 1.5 pages. Basically practise writing them and you'll improve (50 marks)
Roinn A - Prós (30 marks)
Q1 requires you to read an unseen prose and answer questions. It's like a reading comprehension. You must answer 1 question in part A, 1 question in part B and then the last question from A or B (15 marks)
Q2 requires you to write about a studied prose. You will be given 6 themes and you'll have to write about a prose you've studied which includes 1 of those 6 themes. Write about half a page (15 marks)
Roinn B - Filíocht (Poetry) (30 marks)
Q3 requires you to read 2 unseen poems and answer questions on them. You must answer 1 question in part A, 1 question in part B and then the last question from A or B (15 marks)
Q4 requires you to write about a studied poem. You will be given 6 themes and you'll have to write about a prose you've studied which includes 1 of those 6 themes. Write about half a page (15 marks)
Roinn C - Litir
Answer A, B or C. Write a letter and include the points included in the question. Also make sure to write the layout correctly. Write half a page for is section (30 marks)
Corrections on the post above ^
Grammar (you don't have to read OR rewrite the whole text) - All you have to do is change the verbs in the given form (tense) to a different tense that is said in the question above the text (normally is highlighted in bold like "AIMSIR FHÁISTINEACH")
Also, learn the past, present (he forgot to say that) and future tense. Though it hasn't come up, it is still good to learn the conditional mood for your own benefit.
I meant to say Present as well... And it does say to rewrite the text in the paper. I'd rewrite it just in case. But whatever you do, don't write the answers on the paper
