Business in college, without having it for the leaving?
by 5a2study Leaving Cert Business — 27/10/16 5

I haven't chosen business as a subject to do in my leaving cert but after today I wish I have, I really want to do business in college and I'm wondering if its possible to get into a business course in college without having it done in the leaving cert? would it be a bit too much to handle or do they start from scratch, I'm thinking of taking it up but I'm not sure I can , please help !

Yes. I'm 99% sure no third-level course requires you to have business. Most courses start from scratch, so even though it would be helpful to have done business for the LC, you don't have to have done it.

If you're interested in it and you'll learn the stuff you'll be fine

Doesn't matter, if you do business in U.L everybody starts from scratch and does the L.C business, accounting and economics course and a few other electives. You then choose 1 of 5 topics to do from 2nd to 4th year and also do a minor topic.

Most students do at least one Business subject, which is highly advisable as you do not want to be at a disadvantage when doing a Business course. What's at stake here is how prepared you want to be for third level. Having studied Economics, Business and/or Accounting, in advance for Leaving Cert will put you ahead in the class, help you to grapple much better with the issues involved, and assist you in your research and assignments. A lot of 3rd level institutions want to maximise their faculty numbers by making it easy to enter the courses. And what faculty heads and lecturers call 'ab initio' learning is unfair and completely divorced from the reality of the Leaving Cert which offers a very solid grounding in these areas. Prepare in advance for third level - choose at least ONE Business subject for the Leaving Cert.
