This is my people in history for robespierre. Robespierre was born in the small french town of Arras on May 6th 1758. He was a very important figure and also gained the name Incorruptible because he was a very honest and sincere man. He was one of the students of Rousseau and was one of the most important Enlightment writers. His family wash of Irish decent and had believed to gone to France to escape the Protestant Reformation. He had three siblings and at a young age he was responsible for taking care of them. His teachers said in Arras he is smart and intelligent. He went to study law in the university of Paris. In 1781 he was qualified and returned to Arras to pratice law. He was appointed as a judge but left because he couldn't sentence people to death. In 1789 aged 30 he was elected as one of the representives of the Third Estate in the Estates General meeting held by King Louis. He established a reputation as a very honest and sincere man. One of his representives Miribeau said that young man says what he thinks and said he will go far. For the period of the Revolution he lodged in a house called Rue Saint Houré. He was popular with the san cullotes and Paris mob. After years he died on June 1794. He was dead by the guillotine. This event is called the Reign of Terror. Hope this helps
A great deal of that is background stuff and would only get one maybe 2 SRSs in an exam situation. Concentrate more on what he did. Describe what happened in the Reign of Terror and when/why people started to turn against him.
George Washington was born in Virginia. He was a wealthy farmer and owned many slaves. He joined the British colonial army and fought many wars against the Indians and the French and went on the become the commander of the Virginia troops. He returned home after he served his time and began to resent the British. He was elected to the Virginia assembly. He resented the stamp act and the fact that the British had the rule over the colonies.
Later on, he became a member of the continental congress which held meetings in Philidelphia and includes all 13 colonies. In 1775 the continental army was formed and Washington was appointed to the commander and chief on the army. In 1776 the
declaration of independence was issued and this caused a war between the colonial army and the Britsh.
Nothing went well for Washington at first as the British troops were well equipped and could travel long distances. The Brittish won the cities of Philadelphia and New York. The colonial army also had to spend the winter in Valley Forge and many died from hunger and disease. Fortunately, the troops were trained by a German commander, Von Struben and were a very well trained and organized army by the end of the winter. In 1778, the French troops and navy arrived to help the colonials and the Colonials got their first victory at the battle of Yorktown. This was a massive blow to the British army as they could not get troops over the colonies fast enough due to the long distance and they were forced to surrender. Peace talks took place in Paris and America was declared a republic.
A new American constitution was drawn up, the senate and congress were formed and Washington was voted the first president of the United States Of America. Washington died in 1799.
You can write about George Washington, Robespierre or Wolfe Tone for that question. Personally, I usually choose Washington as he has the most information. You need 8 good facts in the essay, so always aim for 10 as it means you have most chance of full marks. I don't have an essay near me, but mention where he is from, the continental congress, and him being the commander-in-chief of the continental army as background. Mention that the declaration of Independence started the war, and explain the differences between the continental army and the British. After that, its a list of battle. Mention which ones were successful and which ones weren't. When you get to Valley Forge, ensure you mention that it was because the British captured Philadelphia, the capital of the thirteen colonies. As someone mentioned above, say how the army was trained by von Stuben, but also mention how half the army had either deserted or died. This all leads to the final battle of the war when a British batallion was cornered on the Yorktown peninsula of Virginia and forced to surrender. From there, you need to ummarise the ending of the war. Say how the treaty of paris was signed, and how Washington served two four year terms as president before retiring back to Mount Vernon in Virginia where he later died of pneumonia in 1799.
Hope this is somewhat helpful, just make sure you know the names of different important battles.
