Do you need to know 1 or 2 religions for JC Rel?
Hi, am wondering if you need to learn all the different religions (e.g Islam, Christianity etc) or just know one well. Am doing JCHL Rel btw. Am asking as ive asked my teacher the same question multiple times but I never got an answer. I've done both Islam and Christianty Also ik that you need to learn section E etc but am wondering if i need to study both C & I, or just one of them, bc you can choose which religion for some q's Thanks :)

you need to know christianity, and for world religion questions you will be most likely given a choice of religion so technically you need to know one in depth but a second one comes in handy (i studied christianity, buddhism and islam in depth). you also need to know the other religions just enough to answer short questions.
The short questions are multi-choice, such as there's 40 on the paper, answer 20. pick your best ones. You will likely come across some you don't know.

Guys, there's 5 sections in the HL paper in total
Section 1: Short questions. 20 questions in total. Answer 10. I always recommend to answer between 11-13 just to make sure you are guaranteed full marks.
Section 2: Pictures. Usually you answer 3 out of 4. But changes to the paper with Covid, you only answer 2.
Section 3: Reading Comprehension. Read text and answer ALL questions.
Section 4: Long questions. Answer 4 out of 6. Each question corresponds to Section A-F.
Section 5: Essay. Six questions. Answer ONE. Each questions corresponds to Section A-F. Worth 70 marks. Majority of students DON'T answer this and LOSE marks. If you attempt an essay it could bring you up an entire grade... DON'T LEAVE IT BLANK!!
To answer your question about Christianity and Islam:
The syllabus says you must know Two MWRs. The majority of teachers only go through one in detail due to time restraiints (so you've done Islam). You can only answer on a MWR in S.4 Q3. and S5. Q3. You will NOT be able to answer using Christianity in these questions.
I always recommend you know Christianity, as you will get choice of ALL 5 MWRs in other sections (S4. Q2, Q4, Q.5 and Q.6.. S5. Q2., Q4, Q5. Q6.) Ireland is a traditional Christian country, so you will have loads of knowledge about Christianity just by living here. Use that knowledge to your advantage by using examples from everyday.
Check out your exam papers. They will show you the layout of the paper and questions.
