How do you know if a Melody is in a minor or major key

Or which one you should do. I'm looking at exam papers but don't know which i should do to practice continuation of a given opening in a minor key.

A minor melody will usually have an accidental in the melody. The first bar will be based on the root chord of the key. For example, if there's no sharps or flats in the key sig and you're not sure if it's in C Major or A Minor, look at the first bar of melody. If it's based around A Minor (ie A, C and E) it's in minor. I think 2018 and 2016 (HL) are minor.
Minor melodies also won't ask for modulation whereas major melodies always do
