Too late to start Classics?

Im in 5th year and I am thinking of taking up Classics outside of school, would it be too late to start now and get the course finished by the end of 6th year? I scored high having a good aptitude for the subject last year but i did not do it for the JC, would it be a waste of my time to attempt it?

Honestly, yes. This subject has not been revised or modernised since the 80s. The exam is extremely demanding, requiring you to write long essays for all sections of the exam paper. Unless long complex essays and a near photographic memory are your thing it’s best to give this a miss at this stage. If you like the subject a lot and you currently study history you might conscider studying it at 3rd level as part of an arts/humanities degree or as an elective if it’s available to you.

Okay thank you! I reckoned it would be too late but I just wasnt sure, thank you for the honesty. You've probably saved me a lot of time and effort.

It really is not too late if you have a good teacher. For example if you got lessons in the Institute (I think Wednesday Nights) the teacher there is very good and extremely well versed in the topic. I have him and he really knows each section, knows what you must write and what sections you should be doing to give yourself the most time in exam. He doesnt use the books (Exam for the Classic Plays) but instead gives notes which really burns through the workload and honestly if you needed an extra subject I couldnt recommend it more.
