The Scientific Method | Definitions
Control
A group/substance used in experiments as a baseline for comparison to the variable being tested.
Controlled Experiment
An experiment where there is only one variable and all other elements remain fixed.
Data
Information that has been gathered during an experiment.
Double-Blind Experiment
An experiment where both the investigator and the person being studied are unaware of who is receiving the actual drug and who is receiving the control.
Experiment
The test of a hypothesis.
Hypothesis
An educated guess based on observation.
Principle
A theory that has been proven to be true over a long period of time.
Replicate
The repeat of an experiment.
Theory
A hypothesis that is supported by different experiments.
Observation
Taking in information about the natural world.
