Programme Requirements
- At least five Leaving Certificate subjects, one of which must be Irish
- Two of the subjects must be selected from one of the designated Vocational Subject Groupings
- Two Link Modules: Preparation for the World of Work and Enterprise Education
- A recognised course in a Modern European Language other than Irish or English
Assessment:
- Written Exam (40%)
- Portfolio of Coursework (60%)
The Exam
The exam paper is a two-and-a-half hour common level paper. There are three sections:
- Section A (30 marks) requires students to answer questions based on a six minute DVD that profiles a business/organisation.
- Section B (30 marks) requires students to answer three questions based on a case study.
- Section C (100 marks) requires students to answer four questions out of a choice of six questions.
Portfolio of Coursework
This carries a maximum of 240 marks and is completed over the two years of the programme. It contains two sections; Sections 1 and 2.
- Section 1 contains the Core Items: Curriculum Vitae (25 marks), Enterprise/Action Plan (35 marks), Career Investigation (40 marks), Summary Report (40 marks). Students must answer all headings in Section 1.
- Section 2 has Optional Items, where students must answer any two from the four headings:Diary of Work Experience (50 marks), Enterprise Report (50 marks), Recorded Interview/Presentation (50 marks), Report on ‘My Own Place’ (50 marks).
Careers
The skills obtained by completing LCVP can be useful in a wide range of careers and areas including Business, Enterprise, Media, the non-profit sector and public sector employment.
